Mission Statement
It is the mission of the Fairhaven Guild to encourage the collaborative efforts of teachers and parents in their pursuit to improve the quality of life of the students with moderate to severe disabilities in San Diego Unified School District.

 Fairhaven Guild
Embracing Parent – Teacher Partnership

 History

There is a consensus within the current group of members that students, parents and teachers directly benefit from opportunities for positive collaboration.  Due to the fact the Fairhaven Guild does not have sufficient funds to purchase excessive equipment or classroom materials, the members agreed to focus on fostering working relationships between parents, caregivers and teachers.
Criteria for grants
The general purpose of the Fairhaven Guild is to make positive changes to the educational experience of students in the Special Day Class environment. Within that general purpose, three specific target areas are identified which provide the focus of most grants. One target area addresses the parent - teacher partnership, one looks at opportunities for students to participate in independence building activities outside of the district and one looks at funding to bring speakers, assemblies or activities to the district.

It is not the purpose of the Fairhaven Guild to purchase educational materials, adaptive equipment or assistive technology devices for classroom or home environment.

Process of Requesting Funding
APPLICATION LETTER

In all cases the Fairhaven Guild requires a letter requesting funds stating the purpose for which the funds are requested and the amount requested.  Letters should include a statement(s) of the desired outcome(s), as well as the names/relationship to students of those making request. These letters should be mailed to the elected President. They will not be accepted over the phone or by e-mail. On the basis of this letter, a determination will be made whether or not the request fits current criteria and whether or not there is a reasonable chance that the grant could be funded considering available funds and prior commitments.   Notification will follow the Bi-monthly meeting of the members (DATES TO BE DETERMINED).

Following Funding

If your request is approved you will be asked to volunteer in future fund-raising events.  There may also be opportunities for families and students to take part Fairhaven Guild activities.

Fairhaven Sponsored Events

The People 1st Conference was held in Mission Valley June 2008, with many Transition Resources for Adult Community Education (TRACE) students in attendance.  The Fairhaven Guild financially sponsored students who may not have otherwise been able to attend due to financial hardship.
